Six years ago, Milya Burian (a lifelong animal lover) chose to open a pet store and grooming establishment in the famous beach community of Santa Monica, California. She called it, To Wag For. Located on fashionable Montana Avenue, it is a welcoming establishment for A-lister pet parents. In 2016, Milya opened another To Wag For location in Bel Air, Maryland. These beautiful bi-coastal stores offer toys, hardgoods, pet nutrition products, and grooming.
The talented person Milya chose to oversee both stores is Megan Conway. Megan, who started in bank management, has always had a passion for knowledge. “When I met Milya,” she said, “I knew she was someone I wanted to work for and use what I knew to grow her business.”
Megan lives with her family in Maryland and is a busy mother of two. As the General Manager, she is in contact with both stores daily and enjoys mapping out the differences and similarities between the two to best serve their customers who are unique to each community. She also travels to the west coast about every two months. Megan supervises ten employees in Bel Air and eight in Santa Monica. She states, “I love my employees. One of my greatest joys is to see them succeed.” To provide them with support and guidance is an essential aspect of what she does. Even with the Santa Monica store closing three hours behind, she is always available if they need her.
For Megan, D.O.G. pet food was an easy fit for both To Wag For locations. She said that D.O.G. products “have every box checked for what I would feed my own animals – ingredients, probiotics, and sustainable packaging.” Megan believes that people are now paying more attention than ever to their animal’s nutrition, and D.O.G. provides a holistic balance that resonates with her customers.
Megan has always been a ‘cat person’ but now has a dog named Wren, who she adores. Megan believes pets are equal members of the household. “Animals give us unconditional love; they give us more than we give them.” As we are still amid COVID-19, Megan’s advice to pet parents is timely for us all; “act always with compassion to all creatures.” Indeed, the world would be a much nicer place.
