During the past few weeks, there has been a whirlwind of press coverage regarding the FDA’s report on dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Although this report was inconclusive, showed no causality, and failed to link the condition to pet food, there has been a rush to judgment by various media outlets which has both perplexed those of us in the pet industry as well as pet parents throughout the nation.
The reason I founded D.O.G. was to provide a holistic and purposeful food to benefit the health and longevity for all dogs – including my own. Part of this mission was to offer products which imparted ingredient transparency, a commitment to the sustainability of the planet, and healthful nutrition backed by science.
We at D.O.G. believe that pet nutrition goes hand-in-hand with scientific verification. This is why we are committed to publishing articles every month which help to educate and inform our fellow dog lovers about the essentials of pet nutrition. In September 2018, Dr. Randy Johnson (the formulator of D.O.G. foods and one of the foremost pet nutritionists in the nation) published an article about DCM, and the importance of taurine in your pet’s diet. In February of this year, Dr. Johnson and I co-wrote a letter regarding the initial report released by the FDA about DCM cases reported to their agency. Today, I am writing this letter to assure you that we will continue to monitor this ongoing investigation and keep you informed with straightforward evidence; not spontaneous extremism.
